Thank you for reaching out Lexi.smith15! I appreciate you getting a head start on your college admissions process. Let me answer some your questions.
Financial aid- At this moment, you can't apply for the FAFSA or the CSS Profile. However, you can start getting awarded money for college by applying for scholarships. Scholarships are a wonderful way to build your college fund. I highly recommend that you check out the AADHE's Scholarships/Grants page for some scholarship database resources and prominent scholarships.
Things you can do now to prepare- First and foremost, begin studying for the SAT and/or ACT now. This can be very helpful in increasing your chances of getting accepted into good colleges. Also, if you haven't already, try to figure out where your passions lie and find ways to embrace your passions through extracurricular involvement.
Classes- Lastly, I encourage you to challenge yourself by taking courses such as AP, IB and/or honors courses. Taking these classes and succeeding in them will show colleges that you are able to handle challenging classes and excel in them. In regards to taking honors classes over AP classes, this is entirely up to you. Do whatever you feel would be best for you. However, many colleges would still like to see AP classes in your application.
I hope this information will be helpful and that you continue to strive for excellence. Keep up the good work!😊
