I am a Sophomore. Am I too early to start working on getting financial aid in place? Also, I have been hearing that the government is cutting out federal grants and loans. Is that true? And if it is, what are we supposed to do? Thank you. Bryson

Thank you for reaching out Bryson! I appreciate your diligence in preparing for college. I understand that this is an uncertain time but here is some helpful information.
The AADHE is aware of the uncertainty of federal financial aid due to the freezing of federal funding. As of now, Federal Student Aid has made it clear in an official statement that federal funding for education (student loans, Federal Pell Grants, etc.) will not be impacted. So, I encourage you to still complete the FASFA. My organization will continue to watch this situation closely.
As a sophomore, you do not need to apply for the FAFSA until your senior year. However, you can start applying for scholarships now. I recommend that you check out our Scholarships/Grants page for scholarship database resources and scholarship opportunities. When you approach your senior year, continue to apply for scholarships but start filling out the FASFA (federal aid) and the CSS Profile (non-federal institutional aid).
I hope that this information will give you a better understanding of the financial aid process. Continue to be proactive in your college admissions process and keep up the good work!
